Breastfeeding helps reduce the risk of obesity in infants. Studies show that only 2.8% of breastfed babies become overweight during early childhood, compared to nearly double the rate (4.5%) among bottle-fed babies.
One key reason is that breast milk contains a balanced amount of healthy fats that support proper growth without excess weight gain. In addition, breastfeeding allows babies to naturally regulate how much milk they consume.
Bottle feeding, on the other hand, often delivers milk more quickly and may prevent babies from controlling their intake. Babies may also be encouraged to finish the entire bottle, which can lead to overeating. With breastfeeding, babies feed according to their own needs and stop when they feel full.
